Parent Association Meeting
Present: Shaunna Mason, Nilsa Rogers, Greg Sutherland, Lisa Williams, Shirley Williams, Bert Yeagley, and Brian Yeagley.
Shirley opened the meeting with prayer.
Action 08-01: The following were elected as officers of OPA:

Action 08-02: Agreed that the primary mission of OPA would be nurturing the faculty and students, not fundraising. To this end, we have implemented the following programs: Adopt-a-kid, Adopt-a-faculty member, birthday cards and snickers bars for all students, optional birthday baskets for students ($15 fee applies), and faculty lunches and suppers.
Action 08-03: Agreed to ask Jay Williams to take the necessary steps for OPA to become a tax exempt organization.
Action 08-04: Agreed to allow the OAA music and OAA sports organizations to become part of OPA. Funds for these organizations will be maintained by OPA.
Action 08-05: Voted to add Shaunna Mason and Shirley Williams and remove all others as signatures on the OPA bank account(s) with Arvest Bank. Either should be allowed to open and close accounts, sign checks, and make deposits and withdrawals. Only one signature will be required on checks.
Action 08-06: Agreed to provide another faculty appreciation lunch on Wednesday, November 19 from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM in the Home Economics room. Shirley will provide leadership to this event.
Action 08-07: Agreed to ask Jeff Tonack and Jimmy Crone to plan and administer a "Lockdown" event in the OAA gymnasium for all OAA students (dorm and village) from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (times subject to change) on December 14 during the faculty Christmas dinner. Bert has lots of great ideas!
Action 08-08: Agreed to invite all parents, alumni, and friends to the next OPA meeting during parent weekend at 9:00 AM on December 7 in the OAA cafeteria. We would like parents to bring ideas on how we can better fulfill our mission to nurture the faculty and students at OAA. We will ask Principal Mike Dale to provide an update on the school and allow time for questions and answers. At this meeting we will be asking parents of dorm students if they would be willing to "adopt" village students and faculty members by agreeing to send occasional greeting cards and/or pray for those adopted.
Action 08-09: Agreed that the next officer meeting will be during supper at 5:00 PM on Monday, November 3 in the OAA cafeteria.
Action 08-10: Agreed that these minutes will be posted on the OPA website after allowing opportunity for those in attendance at this meeting to provide input.
